Arapahoe Aero has been on the field since 1984, which makes it one of the longer-tenured maintenance shops at KAPA, and it holds factory-authorized service center status for Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond, and Mooney. That distinction matters more than it sounds: a factory-authorized shop has direct access to manufacturer service bulletins, warranty work, and training that an independent generalist shop does not.
What They Actually Do
The shop runs two sides of the business under one hangar: airframe maintenance (annuals, 100-hour inspections, pre-purchase evaluations, AD compliance) and a separate FAA-certified avionics repair station handling installs and ADS-B upgrades. If you own one of the four factory-authorized brands, Arapahoe Aero is set up to do warranty-covered work that a non-authorized shop would have to farm out or decline.
Who This Fits
This is the more natural stop for a piston owner - a Cessna 172 or 182, a Cirrus SR22, a Diamond DA40, or a Mooney - especially one still under any factory warranty coverage where authorized-shop status actually changes what is covered. Owners of other brands are still welcome, but the factory relationships are specifically for those four manufacturers.
If your airplane is a Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond, or Mooney and something is a warranty question rather than a routine squawk, ask specifically whether Arapahoe Aero's factory-authorized status applies before you pay out of pocket somewhere else - it can be the difference between a covered repair and a bill.
Why Factory Authorization Matters for Warranty Work
A manufacturer does not extend warranty labor coverage to just any shop that services its aircraft. Factory-authorized status means the shop has been through the manufacturer's training and audit process and can bill warranty repairs back to the factory directly, rather than an owner paying out of pocket and fighting for reimbursement afterward. It also means faster access to current service bulletins and airworthiness directive guidance straight from the source, instead of secondhand through a parts distributor. On an aircraft still inside its factory warranty window, that difference can be the whole cost of a repair.
| Factor | Independent Shop | Factory-Authorized Shop |
|---|---|---|
| Warranty repairs | Owner often pays out of pocket and seeks reimbursement | Billed directly back to the manufacturer |
| Service bulletins | Comes secondhand, often through a parts distributor | Direct access from the manufacturer |
| Training | Varies shop to shop | Manufacturer training and audit required to keep authorization |
Where This Fits Your Airplane
If you own a Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond, or Mooney still inside its factory warranty window, taking a warranty-eligible repair to Arapahoe Aero instead of an independent shop is usually the difference between a covered repair and a bill you pay yourself. If your aircraft is out of warranty or a different brand entirely, the shop still handles piston and light turbine maintenance generally, just without the factory-backed relationship on parts and labor. If you are shopping a used aircraft from one of the four authorized brands, a pre-purchase evaluation here comes with the benefit of decades of local familiarity with recurring squawks on those specific model lines.
What a Pre-Purchase Inspection Actually Checks
A pre-purchase inspection is not the same as an annual, even though the two overlap in places. An annual confirms the aircraft meets the minimum standard to keep flying under Part 43; a pre-purchase inspection is about the buyer's specific decision to spend money on this exact airframe. That typically means pulling panels an annual would not necessarily open, checking corrosion in less-accessible areas, reviewing the full logbook history for gaps or unclear entries, cross-checking AD compliance against the actual airframe and engine serial numbers rather than assuming the paperwork matches the metal, and flagging anything that is airworthy today but likely to become an expensive squawk within the next year or two of ownership. A shop that also does the aircraft's ongoing maintenance, the way Arapahoe Aero does for its factory-authorized brands, brings a practical advantage to that inspection: familiarity with what a particular model tends to hide and where prior owners in the local fleet have run into trouble.
Bottom Line
Arapahoe Aero is the more useful stop specifically because of what it is authorized to do, not just what it is capable of doing. For the four brands it services under factory authorization, that status can turn a repair bill into a warranty claim, which is worth confirming before paying out of pocket anywhere else.
Getting There
The shop is at 12760 E Control Tower Road, with a separate published number for the avionics side of the operation, which is worth calling directly if that is specifically what you need. Four decades on the same field means a lot of local history with the based fleet, which shows up in the small things: knowing a particular model year's recurring squawks, or which AD compliance paths actually apply to an airplane bought used from out of state.

★☆☆☆☆ 8 months agoI have used Arapahoe Aero as they are the only Mooney Service Center in Colorado - my experience has been less than stellar. Scheduling a service is very difficult - they do not have an automated system or scheduler. In order to get on the schedule, you have to speak with the mechanic in charge of your type of aircraft (in my case, Mooney). The mechanic in charge of Mooneys is not great a returning emails or phon...

★☆☆☆☆ 7 months agoI have called 3 times to request information about bringing my airplane for Maintenance, Every single time they take my number and say they will contact their mechanic who will get back with me. Never hear from them again. Just like others reviews here, I keep calling because their not to many options in the area.

★★★★★ a year agoGreat staff Came in here to get a headset checked that I had found in a box among my recently deceased grandfather’s stuff that was heading to the dumpster or storage. The headset worked and Bradley and the front desk lady was very friendly.
