Key Lime Air

The homegrown workhorse. Headquartered at KAPA since 1997, its green Metroliners haul cargo and passengers across the Rockies every night.

The Ramp's Hardest-Working Airline

Every airport has one operator that actually makes the place run. At Centennial it is Key Lime Air, founded here in 1997 and still headquartered on Control Tower Road. The lime-green Metroliners are the most recognizable airplanes on the field, and they are not showpieces. They fly freight runs across Colorado and the surrounding states night after night, the kind of unglamorous schedule that keeps rural banks stocked, parts counters filled, and medical samples moving.

Passengers know the company through its charter work and through Denver Air Connection, its scheduled passenger brand, which gets its own listing on this site. The certificate behind both is the same homegrown operation, which matters: the pilots flying your group charter come out of the same training pipeline that flies checks through mountain winters.

The Group Charter Sweet Spot

The group niche is worth underlining because almost nobody else local fills it. Executive jets top out around a dozen seats. Airline charters out of DIA mean airline airports on both ends, with everything that implies. In between sits a real market: a college team heading to a tournament, a film crew moving to location, a company moving forty people to a retreat. A 30-seat regional jet from Centennial is exactly the tool, and this is the local certificate that operates that class of airplane. Quote it against forty airline tickets plus the productivity cost of a DIA morning and the math is closer than most people guess, sometimes better.

Cargo, the Invisible Backbone

Freight is where the operation earned its stripes. Time-critical cargo has no patience for hub-and-spoke schedules: a bank's document run, a hospital's tissue samples, an assembly line waiting on one part. The Metroliner is the perfect instrument for this work, fast enough to matter, cheap enough to run nightly, and able to use every runway in the mountain West. If your business moves freight that cannot miss, the quoting conversation is short and the airplane is probably already flying your direction tonight.

About Those Reviews

You will notice Key Lime's Google rating runs lower than the executive charter shops on this page. Read the reviews and you will see why: most come from scheduled-service passengers reacting to weather delays on mountain routes, the same complaints every carrier flying those routes collects. Judge the cargo and charter operation by its longevity instead. Freight customers do not keep a carrier for almost three decades out of sentiment, and there is no Yelp for the 2 a.m. check run that arrived on time for the thousandth consecutive night.

Hangar Talk

Spend an evening on the airport map page watching departures and you will see the Metroliners head out as the sun drops. Ramp regulars call the green paint scheme unmistakable at dusk. If Centennial has a night shift, Key Lime is it.

Contact

Headquarters and operations sit at 13252 East Control Tower Road on the field's east side. Cargo and charter quoting runs through the main line; come with the load or the headcount, the dates, and the destination. For scheduled flights, start with the Denver Air Connection listing instead.

The Bottom Line

Not the plushest cabin on the field and not trying to be. Key Lime is what a working airline looks like when it grows up on general aviation soil: durable, local, and busiest when nobody is watching.

I understand the love and I understand the hate. As a small airline, you need to focus on customer service and hospitality, where they do not excel and need to reallocate time and effort. As a service, met expectations at reasonable prices. At least the part that I and many others criticize is the easiest to fix.

Booked a flight out of Muskegon. After several significant delays, the gate agent said things were looking grim. Flight was likely to be cancelled. Why four stars? James and Gary found me a flight out of Grand Rapids, got it rebooked in about two minutes, and provided transportation. Unbelievable. I think that’s the best customer service I’ve had outside of Japan. These small airlines really struggle with delays ...

I flew the Denver to Pierre flight round trip. The flight was smooth and quick. They are one of the friendliest airlines that I've flown on. The lady that I talked to on the phone was amazing. I'm guessing the the low reviews are people that are impossible to please. The quality of the on-board snacks alone show that they are in a class of their own.

Frequently Asked

What is the relationship between Key Lime Air and Denver Air Connection?
Denver Air Connection is Key Lime Air's scheduled passenger brand. Same company, same Centennial headquarters; Denver Air Connection is the name on the scheduled mountain and regional routes.
Can I charter a whole plane for a group?
Yes. Group charter is one of Key Lime's strengths, with regional aircraft that seat far more than an executive jet. Teams, crews, and corporate groups are the typical customers.
Does Key Lime Air fly cargo for small businesses?
Cargo charter and contract freight are the core of the operation. If you have time-critical freight that will not make an airline schedule, call with the load and the destination.
